Rotation depth is starting to become a concern for the New York Yankees, between the injury issues and the lack of additions.

The Bombers have failed to bring in any prominent names to their rotation, and now, they suffered a painful blow to their roster plans.

Right-hander Domingo German was placed on the 60-day injured list because of his shoulder.

German is no stranger to shoulder issues, and unfortunately, they will keep him out of action at least until June, potentially more.

German Was Injured In January, And He Is Behind As A Result

To be clear, German is not currently injured: Yankees manager Aaron Boone said just three days ago that the pitcher has begun a throwing program after being sidelined with shoulder issues in January.

He is now over the issues but is too far behind when it comes to his throwing program.

Usually, a pitcher starts with playing catch, then mound work (bullpens, live batting practices, and simulated games), and then a rehab assignment.

Placing German on the 60-day injured list opens up a roster spot for Anthony Rizzo, but ensured he won’t pitch in major league games until June.

The 29-year-old righty made 18 starts last year, covering 98.1 innings and finishing with a 4.58 ERA.

He suffered some shoulder issues last season, too.

There wasn’t going to be an opening for him in the rotation to start the year, but the Yankees know that depth is extremely important over the course of a 162-game season filled with doubleheaders.

As a result of German’s injury, the Yanks may be forced to go to the market and bring in at least one pitcher, whether he comes via trade or free agency.
