Yesterday was day 95 of the MLB lockout, and both the league and the players met in Manhattan to discuss MLBPA’s latest proposal.
Unfortunately, the two sides remain at a standstill, and an agreement does not appear to be close.
MLBPA’s offer included giving MLB the option to unilaterally make rule changes and do so with a 45-day notice.
MLBPA also agreed to a pitch clock, larger bases, and limits on the defensive shift.
Those changes will go into effect in 2023.
They also agreed to drop their pre-arbitration bonus pool amount from $85 million to $80 million.
Still, there’s no sign of the lockout ending any time soon, and the two sides remain miles apart on several key issues.

“Deadlocked”
With the two sides still at war with each other, it is likely that more games will be wiped off the 2022 regular season schedule soon, further shortening the season.
MLB has already cancelled the first two series of the season, and there is little reason to believe that those series will be the only one’s affected by the ongoing lockout.
Bob Nightengale noted yesterday that the two sides are scheduled to meet again soon, perhaps as early as today.
However, nothing has been scheduled as of now, and it remains to be seen when the next session will take place.
The ball is now in the owners’ court, as they review the players’ most recent proposal and determine next steps.
Fans can only hope that the two sides continue to meet constantly until a deal is finally worked out.
