MLB is currently worried about the first COVID-19 outbreak of the 2022 season, and Wednesday’s game between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox has been postponed as a result.

MLB informed, through a media release, that there are several positive cases in the Guardians’ organization, and playing under those circumstances today wouldn’t make sense.

An MLB insider, Jesse Rogers of ESPN, updated the situation in the afternoon.

“The positive tests within the Guardians org involve mostly coaches and traveling staff including manager Terry Francona, according to sources. They would have been short coaches and their manager for today’s game if they attempted to play,” he tweeted.

Apparently, the coaches (and the manager) have been the most affected party, and there might not be a player outbreak of the virus.

In any case, while MLB investigates and gathers all the details, postponing the game was the best decision.

MLB Is Still Gathering Information

MLB has to test all players and coaches and start the contact tracing process.

At the moment, there is no information as to when the two teams will play the postponed game.

Vince Velasquez was going to take the mound for the Pale Hose, while Aaron Civale was the appointed starter by the Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The two teams have had some intense matchups this season, and over the years.

Both are on the outside looking when it comes to leading the AL Central division, though.

The surprising Minnesota Twins lead the group with a 18-12 record.

The 15-14 White Sox and the 15-15 Guardians are second and third, respectively.

Today’s game could have involved some movement in the standings.

It won’t happen on Wednesday, though.
