The Washington Commanders cannot afford to lose games they are supposed to win.
For a team like Washington, there may only be a game or two each year where they are heavy favorites.
Sunday was one of those games.
The Commanders hosted the injury-depleted New York Giants, where Washington was more than a touchdown favorite.
But, the Commanders turned in one of their worst performances of the season.
Washington got punished on both sides of the ball en route to a 31-19 loss.
According to The Athletic via JPAFootball, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera called this a “low point” of their season.

Washington lost to the then 2-8 #Giants, mainly due to six (!!) turnovers.

This is an unacceptable loss for a team that was hoping to make the playoffs.
Washington now drops to 4-7 and their playoff chances are all but gone.
It would not be a surprise to see this be the last year in Washington for Ron Rivera.
With a new ownership group now in place, it would make sense for them to find a new coach.
Rivera had a few good seasons with the Commanders, but this year should be the final straw.
With this loss, the Commanders fell to 0-4 in the division and still have to play the Dallas Cowboys twice.
Those two meet up on Thanksgiving day, where all eyes will be watching.
If the Commanders get embarrassed again, it is not impossible to think Rivera will get dismissed before the year is out.
But, out of respect for what he has done, the Commanders may let him finish out the year.
Either way, this season is turning into a disaster for Washington and some changes will need to be made.
