The NFL’s number one draft pick is coveted by teams but is also a little embarrassing to earn.
When a team earns that number one pick, it means they were the worst team in the NFL that season.
However, the first overall pick helps teams rebuild.
The Jacksonville Jaguars earned their first picks for the 2021 and 2022 drafts with consecutive losing seasons.
But will they make it a third consecutive year with the first overall draft pick?
Which three teams will see the worst NFL record and earn their number one pick in 2023?
3. New York Jets
The Jets tried to make some moves during free agency for 2022.
They also tried making some moves with a trade offer for Tyreek Hill.
Multiple teams were approached about a potential Tyreek Hill trade, but the Jets and Dolphins emerged in recent days as the two finalists, per sources. Hill is now likely to wind up as a Jet or Dolphin.

However, the Jets would crash and burn when their high-flying hopes failed.
Without them adding any major players this season, the Jets appear to face a tough 2022 season
The team is in a competitive division, with the AFC East becoming more competitive for 2022.
In 2021, they were 0-6 against division opponents.
That isn’t good for the Jets’ chances of having a winning record.
Their downward trend will continue into 2022.
With a 4-13 record last season, it’s easy to see them failing again and getting the number one pick.
2. Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are in full rebuild mode.
They traded away their former starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson.
Without a top quarterback under center, the Texans will struggle in 2022.
However, not having a quarterback isn’t their only roster issue for 2022.
When examining team needs, the Texans need players at every position on their roster.
On a side note…while killing time before Sunday, noticed this oddity on PFF’s mock draft sim. Bengals only team with 1 position need? Texans, every position. 😂 pic.twitter.com/1ExjGyTMUN

While they can’t fill all those holes from this year’s draft, 2023 gives them a chance with a number one pick.
They also have multiple draft picks in 2023 from their trading of Watson.
So if the Browns fall apart in 2022, they would have a high pick from that trade.
However, the most likely scenario has the Texans finishing with the worst record as they rebuild.
That means 2022 could be a bleak year for Houston as they rebuild their team with draft picks.
1. Detroit Lions
The most likely team to snag the number one pick in 2023 is the Detroit Lions.
They would have gotten the number one pick for 2022 if Detroit and Jacksonville didn’t win their last games of the season.
However, they landed the number two spot for 2022 and can easily find their destiny with the first pick in 2023.
They didn’t win a game in most of 2021.
It wouldn’t be until December that the Lions would win their first game of the NFL season.
A repeat of a season like 2021 could happen again in Detroit.
In fact, with the Lions ownership and management, it’s ensured they will.
People in charge never address issues with the team.
Until there’s change inside of the top leadership roles for the Lions, they will continue to suffer.
There’s a reason Lions’ fans have paper bags over their faces in the stands.
#Lions fans sure stand high and mighty, all the while knowing the franchise is more notorious for fans wearing brown paper bags over their heads rather than actual football success/talent. #OnePride pic.twitter.com/LFDQDsUAg8

It’s because management turns their team into a yearly embarrassment on the football field.
2022 will be the same, landing Detroit the first overall pick in 2023.
